How to Set Up Custom Modifiers
Purpose
Custom modifiers give staff reusable, name-only choices such as No, Lite, Extra, or Double while customizing an item. Set them up in Backoffice, restart SalsaPOS, and then confirm they appear on the POS.
Before You Start
- Sign in with a Backoffice account that can change settings.
- Confirm that you are working with the correct restaurant or location.
- Use short, clear modifier names that POS and kitchen staff will understand.
- Keep the POS connected to the network so it can synchronize the saved changes.
Part 1: Set Up the Modifier in Backoffice
-
Open Settings in Backoffice, find Custom Modifiers, and select it.
-
Review the existing entries under Custom Modifiers. Each row has an edit pencil and a delete trash icon.
-
To rename an existing modifier, select its pencil icon, update the name, and select the green check mark. Select the red × to cancel the edit.
-
To create a modifier, enter its name in the Name field under Create Custom Modifiers. Select the purple + button. The example creates Double.
-
Confirm that the new modifier appears in the list, then select Save to store all changes.
Mandatory: After saving changes in Backoffice, fully close and restart the SalsaPOS application on every POS device. The custom modifier will not be ready for use until SalsaPOS restarts and synchronizes the latest Backoffice data.
Deleting a modifier: Select the trash icon beside the modifier and then select Save. Delete an option only after confirming that staff no longer need it.
Part 2: Verify and Use the Modifier on POS
- Fully close SalsaPOS, open it again, and wait for the application to finish loading and synchronizing.
- Start a new order and select an item that opens the modifier selection screen. Choose any required modifier group and regular modifiers for the item.
-
Find the separate Custom Modifier section near the bottom of the screen. Confirm that the saved option appears, then tap it to select it. The example shows Double.
- Select the purple check mark to finish customizing the item. Review the order and confirm that the custom modifier is attached to the correct item before sending it.
Expected Result
The saved custom modifier appears in the POS item-customization screen and can be selected for an order item.
Troubleshooting
- The new modifier is missing on POS: Confirm that it appears in the Backoffice list, select Save, check the POS network connection, and fully restart SalsaPOS.
- The modifier still does not appear after restarting: Wait for synchronization to finish and test with an item that opens the modifier selection screen.
- The name is incorrect: Edit the modifier in Backoffice, select the green check mark, select Save, and restart SalsaPOS again.
- The wrong location was changed: Open the correct restaurant or location in Backoffice and repeat the setup.
