How to Configure and Use PDQ Card Terminals
Purpose
Use this guide to choose a saved PDQ, verify its identifiers, save it to this POS, recover a disconnected terminal, and switch between multiple terminals.
Before You Start
- Use a manager or staff login with permission to manage PDQ (POS).
- Finish or cancel any payment already in progress.
- Power on the card terminal and confirm its network or payment application is ready.
- The device must already be provisioned for this restaurant and synced into Saved PDQs. Ask your payment provider or support team for missing devices.
Protect Terminal Details
Do not share the Auth key, Token, SSK, or full terminal identifiers in screenshots, email, or public chat. Give them only to an authorized payment support contact.
Configure a PDQ on This POS
-
Open PDQ settings
From the order screen, tap the Settings gear, then select PDQ.
-
Review Saved PDQs
Find the terminal by its nickname and serial number. A Dejavoo device also shows its TPN. Connected identifies the PDQ currently selected on this POS; Disconnected means it is not the selected PDQ.
Important: The label confirms which configuration is selected. It does not by itself prove that the physical terminal has power, network access, or a working payment service.
-
Open the required terminal
Tap the terminal row or its settings gear.
-
Verify the connection details
Check Model, Nick Name, and Serial Number against the physical terminal or the information supplied by payment support.
- Dejavoo: also verify the TPN. Auth key and Token are protected credentials.
- Handpoint/PAX: also verify the Merchant Alpha ID. SSK is a protected credential.
These details are read-only on the current POS screen. If any value is wrong, ask an authorized administrator or payment support team to correct and resync the device.
-
Add the saved device to this POS
Set Connection Status to Enable, then tap Save In Terminal.
If a Handpoint/PAX device is being enabled on a PAX POS, keep the screen open while Initializing... is shown.
-
Confirm the result
When the Saved PDQs list returns, confirm the chosen terminal appears as Connected. It is now the card terminal selected for this POS.
Choose Between Multiple Terminals
- Open Settings > PDQ.
- Open the terminal that should handle the next card payments.
- Set Connection Status to Enable.
- Tap Save In Terminal.
- Return to the list and confirm the chosen terminal shows Connected.
Only one saved PDQ can be enabled on a POS at a time. Enabling another PDQ disables the previous selection and turns off NFC Tap To Pay for this POS.
Use the Selected Terminal
- Open or create the order and continue to checkout.
- Select Card.
- Follow the prompt on the card terminal and wait for the approved, declined, cancelled, or error result.
- Do not start the payment again until the first attempt has a clear result. If the outcome is uncertain, check the order and terminal before retrying to avoid a duplicate charge.
Reconnect a Terminal
- Confirm the terminal is powered on and its network or payment application is available.
- Open Settings > PDQ and select the required terminal.
- Set Connection Status to Enable, even if it was previously selected.
- Tap Save In Terminal and allow initialization to finish when shown.
- Confirm the Saved PDQs list shows Connected, then make a normal card payment when service resumes.
Troubleshooting
- No PDQs are listed: The POS cannot manually create the missing payment-provider record in this build. Confirm the restaurant and location, sync the POS, then ask an administrator or payment support team to provision the device.
- The required PDQ shows Disconnected: Open it, choose Enable, and tap Save In Terminal. This intentionally replaces the PDQ previously selected on this POS.
- Initialization closes but the PAX terminal is still not usable: Confirm the correct terminal model and identifiers were provisioned, restart the payment application and POS, then enable and save the PDQ again. Escalate to payment support if it repeats.
- Terminal not ready or still initializing: Wait for initialization to finish. Do not repeatedly press Card while the terminal is starting.
- Connected is shown but no payment reaches the terminal: Check the physical terminal's power, network, payment application, and provider service. The POS label only confirms the selected configuration.
- The identifiers do not match the physical terminal: Do not use or alter the credentials. Ask an authorized administrator or payment support team to correct and resync the PDQ.
Expected Result
The required PDQ is the only saved terminal shown as Connected on this POS, and card payments are sent to that terminal.
Notes
This guide reflects the current tablet workflow on an iMin D1. Device names and available PDQ models depend on the restaurant's payment-provider setup.
