How to Configure KOT Settings from Backoffice
Purpose
Use Backoffice to set the font size for printed kitchen tickets and the number of minutes before an active KOT is marked as timed out on the kitchen display.
Before You Start
- Sign in to Backoffice with an account that can change Settings.
- Confirm the required printed KOT text size and timeout duration with the kitchen manager.
- Keep the POS device connected so it can synchronize the saved settings after restart.
- To verify printed KOT size, a configured kitchen printer must be available.
Part 1: Configure KOT Settings in Backoffice
-
Open Settings. Find KOT Font Size and KOT Auto Timeout.
-
Select KOT Font Size. Choose one of the five positions, moving toward the small A for smaller printed KOT text or the large A for larger printed KOT text. Select Save.
-
Return to Settings and select KOT Auto Timeout. Enter the number of minutes a KOT may remain active before KDS marks it as timed out. The value must be greater than 0, then select Save.
Mandatory: After saving changes in Backoffice, fully close and restart the SalsaPOS application on every affected POS device. The new KOT settings must not be considered active until SalsaPOS restarts and finishes synchronizing.
Part 2: Restart and Verify on POS and KDS
- Fully close SalsaPOS, open it again, and wait for synchronization to finish. Signing out alone is not a restart.
-
Sign in, open an order, add a kitchen item, and select Send to send it to the kitchen.
- Check the printed kitchen ticket. Confirm its text uses the selected KOT Font Size and remains readable on the configured paper width.
-
Open KDS and confirm the new ticket appears with its timer. Leave a test KOT active for the configured number of minutes, then confirm it is available under the Time Out status.
Important: Backoffice KOT Font Size controls printed kitchen tickets. The separate KDS KOT Font Size option in KDS settings controls text displayed on the KDS device.
Expected Result
After the mandatory SalsaPOS restart and synchronization, new printed kitchen tickets use the selected KOT font size and new KOTs use the configured timeout duration in minutes.
Troubleshooting
- The setting did not change on POS: Confirm each Backoffice screen was saved, fully restart SalsaPOS, and wait for synchronization.
- KOT text size did not change on KDS: Backoffice KOT Font Size is for printed kitchen tickets. Adjust KDS KOT Font Size in the KDS device settings for on-screen text.
- No kitchen ticket prints: Confirm the item is routed to a configured kitchen printer and use Print Kitchen Receipt from printer settings to test the printer.
- KOT does not time out: Test with a new KOT created after the restart. Confirm the timeout is greater than 0 and check the KDS Time Out filter.
- The old timeout remains on an existing KOT: Complete the old ticket and create a new test order; the configured duration is assigned when a KOT is created.
Notes
The Backoffice screenshots were supplied for this workflow. The POS and KDS screenshots were reused from existing user-manual assets. Restaurant-specific printer routing and acceptable timeout values should be confirmed by a manager.
