How to Configure Kiosk Management
Purpose
Use KIOSK Management to control the kiosk's branding, order types, loyalty, banners, welcome screen, tips, upsells, receipts, inactivity timeout, and payment methods for a selected location.
Mandatory: After saving kiosk changes in Backoffice, fully close and restart the SalsaPOS application on every affected kiosk. The kiosk does not load the new configuration until the application restarts.
Before You Start
- Sign in to Backoffice with permission to change settings.
- Confirm which location you are configuring. Most kiosk settings apply to the selected location only.
- Keep the kiosk connected to the internet so it can load the saved Backoffice configuration after restart.
- Prepare any brand color, banner images, and welcome-screen image or video before you begin.
Part 1: Configure Kiosk Management in Backoffice
-
Open Settings. Under Ecosystem, select KIOSK Management.
-
On KIOSK Configurations, select the location whose kiosk settings you want to change. Check the location name and details carefully before continuing.
-
Select Theme & Branding.
Choose the kiosk brand color or enter its hexadecimal color value, then select Save. This color is used for supported kiosk buttons and accents.
-
Return to the location configuration and select Order Type Settings.
Enable Take Out, Dine In, or both. Select Save. Only enabled order types are offered to kiosk guests.
- Set Loyalty Program Settings to Enable if guests should be able to use kiosk loyalty features; otherwise leave it disabled. This switch is on the main location configuration page.
-
Select Offer Banner for Kiosk.
Select Click to Upload (5) and add the promotional images. Use images at 1920 × 1200 pixels and no larger than 1 MB for best quality. Review the thumbnails, use the trash icon to remove an unwanted image, then select Save.
-
Select Welcome Screen Customization.
Choose Set Image Only to use only an uploaded image or video, or choose Image with Welcome Text to use media with a welcome message. Upload the required file and select Save.
-
Select Enable or Modify Tip Options.
Enter the four tip percentages shown during checkout. Select Apply To All Locations only when the same values should replace the tip setup at every location, then select Save.
-
Configure the upsell switches on the main page:
Enable only the upsell behavior supported by the location's menu configuration.Option What it controls Upsell Feature Toggle Turns kiosk upsell suggestions on or off. Size Wise Upsell Shows suggestions based on the selected item's size. Order Wise Upsell Shows suggestions based on the current order.
-
Select Receipt Preferences.
Set the available receipt methods:
- Print Receipt by Default: automatically prints a receipt after each completed order.
- Enable SMS Receipts: allows a guest to send the receipt to a mobile number.
- Enable Email Receipts: allows a guest to send the receipt to an email address.
-
Select Time Out.
In Set Seconds, enter how long the kiosk may remain inactive before it resets to the welcome screen, then select Save. Choose enough time for a guest to complete normal selections without being reset.
-
Under Kiosk Payment Methods, enable every payment type that guests may use and disable unsupported types:
- Gift Card Payments shows the gift-card payment option.
- Pay at counter lets the guest send the order for payment at the counter.
- Credit Card Payments shows card payment and requires correctly configured payment hardware.
- Review the selected location and all settings. Select Save on every detail page that provides a Save button.
Restart required: Saving in Backoffice is not the final step. Fully close and restart the SalsaPOS application on each affected kiosk before testing any change.
Part 2: Restart and Verify on the Kiosk POS
- Fully close SalsaPOS and open it again. Wait for the kiosk to finish loading the latest configuration.
-
Confirm that the welcome screen shows the saved media, welcome content, and brand color. Tap Touch Screen to Begin.
-
Confirm that only the enabled order types appear. The example below shows both Take Away and Dine In.
-
Open the menu. Confirm that the saved brand color is used and the offer banner appears. If loyalty is enabled, confirm that the loyalty or reward control is available. If upsells are enabled and configured in the menu, add an eligible item and confirm that the expected suggestion appears.
-
Add an item and continue to payment. Confirm that the screen shows only the enabled payment methods. The example shows Gift Card, Pay at counter, and Credit / Debit Cards.
-
Continue through checkout and confirm that the saved tip percentages appear. If tipping is disabled, confirm that the tip step is not offered.
-
Complete a training order using an approved test payment flow. Confirm that the enabled print, email, and SMS receipt choices behave as configured.
- For the timeout check, begin a new order and leave the kiosk untouched. Confirm that it resets to the welcome screen after the configured inactivity period. Do this only when no guest order is in progress.
Expected Result
After SalsaPOS restarts, the selected kiosk location uses the saved branding and welcome content, offers only the enabled order types and payments, applies the configured tips and receipt choices, shows eligible loyalty, banner, and upsell features, and resets after the configured inactivity timeout.
Troubleshooting
- The kiosk still shows old settings: Confirm the correct location was edited, confirm each detail page was saved, check the kiosk internet connection, then fully close and restart SalsaPOS again.
- A banner or welcome image is missing: Check the uploaded file in Backoffice, confirm the stated size guidance for banners, save again, and restart SalsaPOS.
- An order type or payment method is missing: Reopen KIOSK Management for the correct location and confirm its switch is enabled.
- Card payment is visible but cannot complete: Confirm that the kiosk's PDQ or Tap To Pay setup is connected and ready. KIOSK Management only controls whether the option is shown.
- Upsells do not appear: Confirm the main upsell switch and the required size-wise or order-wise switch are enabled, and verify that eligible upsell items are configured in the menu.
- The kiosk resets too quickly: Increase Time Out, save, and restart SalsaPOS before testing again.
Notes
The Backoffice screenshots show the Sky zone training location. Restaurant names, media, menu data, available payments, and enabled features vary by location. The POS screenshots are existing kiosk training screens and should be verified against the current restaurant configuration.
