How to Configure and Test Printers
Purpose
Use this tutorial to find a printer, save it as a main or kitchen printer, choose paper size, and print a test receipt before using it during service.
Before You Start
- Your role must have printer setup permission.
- The printer must be powered on, loaded with paper, and connected by Bluetooth, WIFI, or USB.
- For Bluetooth setup, allow the Bluetooth and Location permissions when Salsa POS asks.
- For WIFI setup, keep the POS device and printer on the same network.
- For USB setup, connect the printer before opening the printer screen.
Configure a Printer
- Open the printer configuration screen from the POS management or settings area.
- Select the connection type: Bluetooth, WIFI, USB, or DEFAULT when that option is available on the device.
- If you select WIFI, choose Quick first. Use FULL only when Quick does not find the printer.
- Tap Discover.
- When Select a Device appears, select the correct printer from the list. The selected device address appears under Last Selected Devices.
- Choose Main Printer for customer receipts or Kitchen Printer for kitchen tickets.
- For a kitchen printer, choose the correct kitchen tag when needed, such as Pizza Kitchen, Burger Kitchen, or Common Kitchen.
- Choose the paper size: 79mm or 58mm.
- Tap Save.
Test the Printer
- After saving the printer, tap Print Main Receipt to test customer receipt printing.
- Tap Print Kitchen Receipt to test kitchen ticket printing.
- Check that the test print is readable, uses the expected paper width, and prints on the correct physical printer.
- If the print fails, use Retry after checking the printer, or Cancel to stop that print job.
Expected Result
The printer is saved with the selected role and paper size. Main receipts print from main printers, and kitchen tickets print from kitchen printers or kitchen tags during normal order workflows.
Common Mistakes
- Wrong printer role: A printer saved as Main Printer is for customer receipts. Use Kitchen Printer for kitchen routing.
- Wrong paper size: If the receipt is too narrow, clipped, or spaced badly, confirm whether the printer uses 79mm or 58mm paper.
- Wrong kitchen tag: If kitchen items print in the wrong area, check the kitchen tag assigned to the printer.
Common Questions
- Can one printer be used for receipts and kitchen tickets? Yes, but it should be saved with the role needed for that workflow. Use separate printers when the restaurant needs separate receipt and kitchen output.
- What is DEFAULT? It appears only on supported devices with an internal/default printer. Use it when the POS device itself should print the receipt.
- Do I need to test both receipt buttons? Test the button that matches the printer role. Test both when the same physical printer is expected to handle both receipt types.
- Why do misc items show Kitchen Printer selection? Kitchen printers saved here can be selected later when routing a misc item to a specific kitchen printer.
Notes
No printer screenshots were added. A connected iMin D1 was available on July 2, 2026, but the printer setup activity was not exported for direct ADB capture, and no existing printer screenshots were available under the POS manual assets folder. The entry path to the printer configuration screen should be verified by a product owner or QA user.
