How to Add, Delete, and Manage Seats
Purpose
Use seats when one table or order has multiple guests and each guest's items should stay grouped. Seats appear as S1, S2, and so on on the Menu screen.
Before You Start
- Open the active order on the Menu screen.
- Confirm you are editing the correct table, tab, or order before changing seats.
- If combo offer selection is open, finish or close that selection before adding a seat.
Add a Seat
- Find the seat row near the order area. Existing seats show as S1, S2, and so on.
- Tap the + seat button.
- The POS adds the next available seat number and selects it.
- Add menu items while the new seat is selected. New items are placed under that seat.
If a seat number was deleted earlier, the POS may reuse the first missing number instead of only adding the next highest number.
Select and Manage Seats
- Tap a seat chip, such as S1 or S2, to make it active.
- Confirm the selected seat is highlighted before adding items.
- Review the cart. Items should appear below the correct Seat 1, Seat 2, or matching seat header.
- To move an item to another seat, open the item edit action and use Transfer Item to Seat.
Delete a Seat
- Long-press any seat chip to turn on seat delete mode.
- Red minus icons appear on the seat chips.
- Tap the red minus icon on the seat you want to delete.
- Review the remaining seats and order items after the seat is removed.
- Long-press a seat chip again if you need to leave delete mode.
Important
Deleting a seat does not delete the whole order. The POS keeps at least one seat. If the deleted seat has eligible in-progress items, those items move to another remaining seat. Paid or already changed items may stay protected, so review the order before sending, holding, or checking out.
Expected Result
The order shows only the seats currently needed. New items are added to the selected seat, and removed seats no longer appear in the seat row.
Common Questions
- Can I delete every seat? No. One seat must stay on the order.
- Can I add a seat while transferring an item? Yes. The item edit transfer area can add another seat, then you can choose it as the target seat.
- Does seat count affect gratuity? It can. Guest-based gratuity rules use the order's seat count, so check totals after adding or deleting seats.
- Should staff practice this on live orders? No. Practice in a training account or with a test order so active table service is not changed by mistake.
Notes
- No screenshots were added because ADB could not start in the current sandbox and no existing asset showed the add/delete seat controls clearly.
- Assumption: staff access delete mode by long-pressing a seat chip. Verify this on the target device during QA.
